Professional Standards
Ensuring high professional standards is essential if interpreting is to function safely and effectively. In addition to recognising formal interpreting qualifications, NRPSI issues a code of professional conduct for interpreters and keeps it under regular review. The code provides guidance setting out skills, practices and knowledge for interpreters to use in their professional lives.
All registered interpreters agree to abide by the code. NRPSI can take action against those who fall short of the code’s standards. By conducting this independent disciplinary procedure, we ensure that the integrity of the profession is maintained and the public can be confident in the service provided by a registered interpreter.
You can find details about the NRPSI Code of Professional Conduct and the minimum standards of professional competence required of professional interpreters on the Why Use a Registered Interpreter? page of our website.
